Unique to the Ashdown, which more often than not, has long and narrow floor plans, is the relatively square floor plan of this unit. Further emphasized by its corner location, it's striking pattern and abundance of windows, which provides a very welcoming feeling of space and light. Only available on the 3rd floor of the building are the Romanesque- arch style windows and with all of the former interior walls removed in the renovation, these windows have become a signature focal point of the unit. In 2000, the current owners of this suite used Lynda Levit, from Xyz Design Inc to completely gut and retrofit the suite to its high standards. If you look up, you will see a ceiling that has all the original beams fitted with corrugated metal sheeting. In addition to serving as a textural design element the corrugated metal ceiling serves as a refractor of light around the room.
The floors were levelled and replaced with prefinished hardwood flooring. Wiring and much of the plumbing and mechanical were upgraded at this time. All the interior main walls were removed to ensure an uncompromised open concept throughout the main living area. As a result the suite should be considered fully retrofitted from top to bottom.
The lighting is of the highest quality and design. A combination of halogens, low voltage wall sconce lighting and designer track systems can be found throughout the suite. The dining area chandelier is made of Flight Paper and illuminates the area with a soft, luxurious glow.


The kitchen was painstakingly designed to ensure a unique, sophisticated look.
The island is an 8 foot granite work table with custom metal leg base, floating cook top dropped in. All the electrical is invisible and hidden within the hollow metal legs. Ultimately the work table serves as a sculpture which separates the kitchen from the living room and is buttressed by the original structural barn-wood beams.
A 24 inch Chinese wok vessel sink sits a top the 11 foot granite counter (seen here), and yes, there is a garborator cleverly hidden in the sink. The cabinetry is floating open shelving consisting of metal rods and custom wooden boxes. All cabinetry is fashionably lit and the shelves are filled with stylish dishes and stemware. Halogen wall sconces make the china and crystal sparkle. All these items will remain, including the dishes.
Legged stainless steel appliances are offset from the floor. They include a pair of glass front fridges (one is a wine fridge), dishwasher and built in oven, all are stainless steel and either Whirlpool make or Kitchen Aide. You will appreciate the kitchen’s storage with the 11 inch deep drawers which are stylishly clad in stainless steel.
In keeping with the open concept design of the suite, the counter turns the corner to become a vanity as it enters the bedroom.
Halogen lighting baths the food preparation area. You will not believe how beautiful your meals will appear when they are illuminated to their true colors.
